SCOPE

We have faced the urgent global issues on energy, food, health, underground resource and environment. Technological innovations are demanded to solve them much more than before. The fundamental concept of Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) is controlling the properties of structural sectors inside a material to realize new functionalities and durability. We believe that the idea of FGMs is one answer to our future, since material solutions have been offered in the fields of structural and optical materials, semiconductors, biomaterials and polymers, and so on.
The 1st International Symposium on FGMs (ISFGMs) was held in Sendai, Japan in 1990, the 4th one in Tsukuba, 1996, the 10th one in Sendai, 2008. We are pleased to convene the 15th ISFGMs in Kitakyushu, Japan in 2018 for you with interest in new functionalities and durability by structural sector approaches. All of you are welcome to the 15th ISFGMs to meet and discuss together on scientific and technological approaches for our facing issues and to share a fruitful and rewarding experience in Kitakyushu.
